Skechers recently donated more than $480,000 to programs and classes for children with special needs in Southern California. During a ceremony at the footwear brand's Manhattan Beach headquarters, $209,000 was presented to the non-profit organization Friendship Circle while more than $280,000 was shared between six of the area's education foundations. Proceeds for this were raised during last October's Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, an annual event that encourages families and businesses to support local kids.
Discount shoe chain DSW kicked off its FIT design competition at the newly renovated HH Brown showroom in Times Square on Wednesday. Over the next six weeks contestants will design a women's dress shoe and boot and five finalists will have their opportunities produced by one of five vendors: Mark Fisher, Nine West, Chinese Laundry, Vince Camuto and Highline United. From there, one winner and one runner-up will receive a paid internship with the brand partner that created their sample and a limited number of the winner's design will be available in New York City and online.
